Transit-Oriented Development for All Ages
Thursday, November 30, 2017
8:30 - 10:30 AM

Mid-America Regional Council Board Room
600 Broadway, Suite 200
Kansas City, MO 64105

Join MARC on Nov. 30 at the Transit-Oriented Development for All Ages workshop to learn how your community can include all-age thinking in the transit development (TOD) planning process, and in plans to increase transit readiness.

More communities are looking for ways to enhance livability, particularly as jurisdictions recognize the impending growth of their older adult populations over the next century. As people live longer, more of your community’s older residents will need environments that are better suited for mobility, health and independence. Transit-Oriented Development is one way to create appealing, economically vibrant and livable neighborhoods. Overall, TOD is a story of success. However, implementing it has its challenges.

This workshop will offer:

  • Key findings from the recent AARP Public Policy Institute report “Communities are Embracing Development near Transit: A Snapshot of Transit-Oriented Development Support across the United States.”
  • The region’s vision for transit – Smart Moves.
  • Insights and experiences on TOD from regional transit, local jurisdiction and development professionals.
  • Suggestions on adapting TOD planning for communities with few – or no – transit options.
